By Jason Hirata
Fodder

Published on the occasion of the exhibition The Brink: Jason Hirata, this accordion-constructed artist book features a series of images that consider abstracted forms of violence within the corporate state. In these images, Hirata joins two sources distanced by over a century: Francisco de Goya’s early nineteenth-century print of a famine-stricken group from The Disasters of War series and the ideas foundational to Jack Welch’s tenure as Chairman and CEO of General Electric (1981-2001). Oriented along the vertical and horizontal axis simultaneously, the images in Fodder create an intertextual dialogue that pivots around the relationship between individual survival and commercial interests of wealth accumulation. With an introduction by Nina Bozicnik, Assistant Curator.
