The form of the triptych in Western art has its origins in Early Christian altar pieces, consisting of three units that were conceived as a set and hinged together. In the centuries following, the triptych has been adopted, adapted, and reinvented by artists throughout the world. Join us to discuss a selection of works in the Henry’s permanent collection that were created as sets of three, the legacy that form carries, or doesn’t, and how the groupings affect our perception of the individual pieces.
Re/frame is a recurring program that delves into the Henry's extensive collection, highlighting a different group of objects each month. Join us for group discussions and the opportunity to see art rarely on public view.
